Indianapolis Midget Speedway

Promoter Rags Mitchell built Indianapolis Midget Speedway in 1946, right across West 16th Street, where the much more famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway was located. It was a 1/4 mile paved oval, and used to host three separate race programs the day before the Indy 500 (one in the afternoon, one at dusk, and one at midnight). It was sold in 1959, and a shopping mall built on the site.
