Track History

This is the first purpose-built GP circuit in an East European country, built in seven months in open country some 12 miles/19km NE of Budapest with a state loan. It was widely praised when the first world championship Hungarian GP was held there in 1986.

However, the track was regularly criticised for the processional races it tended to have and the lack of overtaking places. In order to try and remedy this, the track was modified during the winter of 2002/3, the new track layout being shown below.
