Darley Moor was first used in March 1965, hosting five motorcycle meetings and a practice day. Bridle paths and footpaths cross the circuit, and although the organising club has the right to close them on race days, they remain open, with marshals escorting the walkers across the circuit between the races. However, the circuit faught for many years to get permanent planning consent to hold further events, including non-racing events, but this was only granted in 1996 after much legal expense.
