Debden
A USAF/RAF airbase which was first used for a 750MC meeting on the 9th June
1962 on a 1.5 mile circuit. The 750MC held further events, but on the 27th
June 1965 a competing car managed to spin through a fence and reach a public
road. The RAC notified the 750MC that it would have to build a protective
barrier before it would issue another permit, but the club felt that it
could not afford it, and it envisaged problems with the RAF as the airbase
was still operational. Besides, the surface was also breaking up, so the last
race meeting was held on the 1st July 1965. It is still occasionally used
for sprint events.
