Track History
Created for the Australian Grand Prix in 1985, this city circuit was unusual
in having fast corners and a 1km long straight, as well as run-off areas. It
was made up of uniformly surfaced public roads (bordered by only a few
buildings) and a specially constructed 1km loop in the Victoria Park and
racecourse grounds. When the Grand Prix moved to Albert Park, the track
was disused until revived in a 3.22 km form in 1999 for the V8 Supercar
series (see below). The original circuit was used in the 31st December 1999
for a 6 hour ALMS race.
